Just picked up a Grandland with keyless entry and start. The electronic keys I have look as though they also contain a mechanical (conventional) key folded into the side. However despite all attempts I cannot open it. Also there is a sprung slide switch at the bottom of the key, it slides against a spring but doesn't appear to do anything. Can anyone help?

Hi
This may help - I found a pic of one with what seems to be with the key removed

Thanks. I just figured out that the corner metal part has to be pulled out with the latch slid against the spring. This results in a key but it doesn't really have any handle to it, other than the small chrome corner piece. I thought maybe then this somehow slots back into the existing plastic handle to use the key, but I couldn't find any way of doing this... You wouldn't be able to just use the extracted metal part without a handle to turn it, so still somewhat puzzled.....

A little bit late but may help others. Once the metal key is removed attach it to a key ring. There should be a hole at the top. The ring then adds an element of leverage for turning it once pushed into the lock. I just added it to my regular car key ring.
I have unlocked my car a couple of times using just the metal section without needing anything extra. Be warned, the alarm will go off. You need to place the fob in the recess on the left side of the steering column and press the start button to silence it.
