I have a new Grandland petrol, I've now driven close on 2000 miles and the stop start has never operated. The green light flashes on the dash but no actual stop/start. Perhaps I should be grateful given the problems it seems to cause some people!
Is there a way to switch it on or does it mean a trip to the dealer?

Hi mine only worked for a few months, VX said they could not fault it, I was told by AA that the battery needs changing after 4 years on S/S cars, so I had it changed and it worked again for a couple of weeks, but that's last year.

My Grandland X Elite Nav start stop worked for a year then stopped, then had an issue with my battery which I replaced, worked for a few months then died again. Had the battery checked and told faulty so replaced. Since then for the last 2 years I haven't had a problem with the start stop. So the problem was with the battery

It’s the battery. Simple as that. If there’s Not enough power the stop/ start doesn’t work. Please also note there is a small cable that plugs into the side of the battery area. This is the battery system diagnostic. If this is faulty it thinks the battery isn’t any good, so when having the battery checked, it’ll need a code reader to see if it brings up this BSD fault. If not then it’s just the battery. The electronic battery sensor (EBS) measures the current, voltage and temperature of 12V lead-acid batteries with great precision. The battery state detection algorithm (BSD) integrated into the EBS calculates the current and predicted state of charge and function of the battery from these base parameters and indicates battery aging effects. This information is passed on to a higher-level control unit, e.g. the electrical energy management (EEM) system. If needed, that system implements suitable measures to ensure the power supply to ancillaries that are important or critical to safety. 99.9% of the time it’s just simply the battery though.

I had the same issue with a different car a while back, and it turned out the stop/start only kicks in when the battery’s fully charged or the engine’s warmed up enough. Could also be a sensor acting up. If the light’s flashing but nothing’s happening, I’d say it’s worth getting it checked out at the dealer, just to be safe.

But dealers love customers to think that way. It’s all more money for them to tell you nothing is wrong. I’d just buy a decent code reader and do it yourself.

The stop start has never worked from when the car was delivered with 68 miles on the clock, the battery must be pretty poor to be run down that quickly. It is a lease car so will ask dealer to sort it out at first service.

I have the same problem on my Grandland Ultimate. The full sorry tale is as follows :-

19/6/2024 - Took delivery of new Grandland Ultimate and after some weeks of driving I noticed that the Stop/Start facility on the car was not working so I reported it to the dealer.

31/7/2024 - Dealer took the vehicle in for inspection/remedial action but couldn’t fix the problem and said that they would need to bring the car in for further investigation.

9/9/2024 - Dealer took the car in again and as they couldn’t track down the fault they involved the Vauxhall Technical Department. Since then I seem to be trapped in a never ending cycle of :-

(a) Vauxhall Technical Department asking for action to be taken
(b) The dealership taking the requested action
(c) The action doesn’t fix the problem
(d) the dealership pass the matter back to Vauxhall Technical Department

At this point I have to be fair and say that the dealership appear have been very supportive by keeping me informed of developments as they occur, promptly carrying out Vauxhall Technical Department action requests and giving me a courtesy car but I’ve been told that as this is a warranty issue they apparently have to involve Vauxhall Technical Department who don't seem to be treating the matter with any degree of urgency.

I’ve raised the matter with Vauxhall Customer Services but so far they have done little more than repeat the information which I’ve already received from the dealership or tell me that the case has been passed to Vauxhall Technical Department and after 8 weeks they still don’t seem to be able to tell me how much longer the fix will take.

Anybody know how to get some action out of Vauxhall?

Hi Colin, mine was delivered towards the end of July and I too realised the stop start was not operating. It is a lease car and I was not that bothered about it. I will contact the service section of the lease company and see if my local Vauxhall dealer can fix it.
