2018 turbo wet belt disintegrated and advised needed new engine as disintegration had damaged engine…43,000 miles.
Vauxhall garage initially told me £4,500 for new engine, but £3,500 would be covered under an extended warranty I purchased in 2021 when I bought the car. Told me Vauxhall would not make any contribution as I would be using extended warranty.
Contacted Vauxhall Customer care, first advisor initially called to say Vauxhall would cover 60% of replacement belt but then said Vauxhall would not cover anything as it was a full engine replacement and I was using an extended warranty. They did described issue on the call as a manufacturing fault. I argued that the extended warranty I purchased was from Arnold Clark and nothing to do with Vauxhall, it didn’t make sense for them to initially agree to contribute and then withdraw offer, especially when they described issue as manufacturing fault. Kept on asking them to explain but getting nowhere, told them I would be taking complaint to motoring ombudsman. Asked for issue to be escalated and after a week got a call to say Vauxhall coving full cost of engine replacement.
Obviously happy they agreed to cover cost but I had to do a lot of calling and arguing to get to that point.

So the lesson of this is to stand your ground then. Thanks Vauxhall, of most common faults i never expected this to rise to the higher levels :-(

Great to see you have got it resolved.
It seems to show persistence on this issue is key to getting it fixed by them.

2018 Petrol Turbo Timing Belt / Engine Issue

Hi,
I have read several post about the timing belt on some 2018 models disintegrating & causing issues with the oil sump & engine. I've recently experienced the dreaded 'engine failure - repair needed' & 'low oil pressure' warning lights. My local garage has diagnosed what apparently is a well known manufacturing fault & booked me in with a specialist engine garage locally. I've raised with Vauxhall, as I don't see why I should be facing a potential expensive repair bill for a known manufacturing issue. My gut tells me I won't get anywhere with them & will have to fork out for whatever repair is needed. Interested to hear opinions of those impacted with this issue. 2018 reg, 1.2 Turbo with only 38k miles. Typically, out of warranty but full Vauxhall service history. Thanks in advance. John

Hi All,
Thought I’d give my experience on this issue,
I brought my 69 plate Grandland X second hand in March of this year. It has 40000 miles on the clock and with a service every 12 Months.
I had the dreaded “Oil pressure low” fault pop up on the dash, I scanned the engine for the code and found this forum.
Took this down to my local Vauxhall dealership and paid £99 for a health check to confirm the fault.
Dealership confirmed fault and states that due to the services not being completed within the required 12000 Miles they would not be able to repair the fault under warranty and quoted £1050 for the repairs to replace the timing belt.
As from my findings online this is a well known fault with the 1.2L turbo engines and Peugeot did a recall on the same engines a few years ago.
Vauxhall have put out a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) for this fault but still have not recalled the engine to upgrade the timing belt.
So I complained to Vauxhall Customer Care and spoke to someone who wasn’t very helpful and just logged my complaint.
After that call (as I thought the complaint would go nowhere) I also emailed the CEO of Vauxhall following up with my complaint number and stating that I wanted to escalate this as I don’t not think it is right that I am being charged for something that is such a known fault.
After 5 working days i received a call from the CEO’s complaints manager who advised that they will be repairing my car for free and I have since booked it back in with the dealership for the FOC repair.
My recommendation for anyone who has a Grandland X or Crossland X with the effected engine is to get it checked by a Vauxhall dealership before it runs out of warranty because I am pretty sure I would of been stuck with a £1000 bill if it was outside the warranty period.
I’ll update once the repair is completed on the 7th September

Its good to hear you getting your car fixed for free as it seems to be the dealerships are not as willing to solve the issues with the timing belts without contacting the CEO office to escalate which then its solved straight away,
Hopefully you have trouble free motoring once its been fixed.

Apologies for the delay reference engine oil but have been working away. Anyway, as originally stated the main dealer put 05/30 fully synthetic. Had the car serviced this week and asked the local garage to double check and he had confirmed that it is now 0/30. Just to ensure it is correct I contacted Vauxhall Customer Service myself and they have confirmed the engine oil for my car to be 0/30. From previous forum posts it appears that the belt was upgraded during 2017. It would be of some help if Vauxhall could comment on this issue to help and to eleviate any misgivings regarding the Grandland X which to date I enjoy. For me it is decent car, good ride and looks the part. Happy motoring Grandlanders and enjoy the ride.

I have just been told that I need a new engine for my crossland x ecotec only bought it January this year second hand from Peter vardy it is a 67 plate not sure what to do next
