Wet timing belt disintegrated, new engine required outside warranty
I’ve been through something similar. If it were me, I’d probably go with the cheaper engine replacement option from your independent garage. The dealership might not offer much help, and paying them for diagnostics could just add to your costs. If you’re thinking of trading in the car, getting the engine fixed first could help you get a better price. Just make sure the replacement is done right so you don’t face more issues later.
Hey! I had this problem with my Grandland too. It was out of warranty, but I called Vauxhall customer service several times and eventually escalated to a regional manager. It took some persistence, but they ended up covering part of the cost. It might be worth a shot to keep pushing or ask to escalate your case.

Hi
I've only done 12,000 , but have been told every 6 years it needs replacing, can anybody confirm this 2018 reg, thanks, what's the cost, do I get rid now before it becomes an issue?
Thanks

2018 Grandland X 1.2 Petrol 52k miles and I purchased the car last year. Vauxhall customer care team told me that as long as I had full service history and their diagnostic code was for the wet belt fault then it would be repaired. I called again the day later to confirm all details and, again, they confirmed that independent garage services were acceptable.
So I booked the car in at the earliest appointment 3 weeks away at a garage 50 miles from my house. The transportation cost was £250, diagnostic £132 and now they are saying they won't repair it because 1) it's over 6 years old and 2) it doesn't have services with Vauxhall dealer & I can't produce invoices for services.
They had the car details the whole time so obviously knew the age of the car. And they also confirmed to me twice that independent garage services would be accepted.
The car is still 50 miles away and they are asking for £1200 to replace the wet belt.
I would never have sent the car all that way and wouldn't have paid their diagnostic charge when I already had the fault code from an independent garage. If they had been honest to start with and said they wouldn't repair it, I would have just had it repaired at a local garage for £600.
I intend on fighting this the whole way. I've requested a call back from Vauxhall and will be making a formal complaint tomorrow before making contact with the motor ombudsman.
Has anyone been in a similar situation where they have been told it will be repaired then Vauxhall have changed their stance after receiving the car?

Reading through these posts has me very worried, I have a 2018 Vauxhall Grandland 1.2 petrol done 38000 miles. I currently have the electrical fault repair needed warning coming up and have the car booked in to be checked with the main Vauxhall dealer on Thursday 26/09. As my car fits the age and mileage a lot of posts have mentioned they have experienced the wet belt problem would it be a good idea to also ask the garage to check the wet belt or would this be identified by a diagnostic check?

Exact same issue here, quoted £7500 from Vauxhall, keep refusing any acknowledgement that it's a known fault.
