i have a 3 year old crossland x. all of a sudden in the last 2 weeks the engine fault and or abs dashboard warning lights keep appearing. sometimes the car starts and sometimes not. at first they could not find a problem then they said it was a battery so replaced the battery and the problem seemed to be okay for 2 days then came back and as i was driving to the garage the car just stopped in the middle of the road.
the garage says that it needs a computer costing 2.5 k which seems ridiculous on a 3 year old car that we drive just around our city.
any one else have a similar problem?

Are you saying that it was a permanent fault that cleared with a fully charged battery? Try giving the battery a good charge (ideally with an intelligent charger such as an Optimate or CTEK) and see if it repeats the cure. If it does it may be the alternator, or as suggested an ECU controlling the battery charging, or you may have a electrical drain. I'm assuming the garage you took it to was a main dealer, or independent Vauxhall specialist, who put it on a code reader to read the fault codes. If they haven't take it somewhere that will. If they have, you may want to share the fault codes on here as someone may be able to help. Good luck
