My wet belt has gone and they are trying to quote me nearly 4grand to get it fixed. They have said it is a fault with the car but because I have not had a service they will not pay!
They have said if I had had a service then this may have not have happened but do they even check this on the service?? Has this happened to anyone else but had a service???
Wet belt fault
Wet belts "should" last for at least 6 years when a car is serviced correctly. Not having the car serviced correctly can cause damage to the engine by having old oil running around it. If you think Vauxhall have let you down you can go to the ombudsman but I suspect they will side with Vauxhall if you haven't stuck to the correct service intervals.
Good Evening
My 70 Plate Grandland has been 'wet belted'
I was driving on the M4 on my way to work. (12 October)
Car went into limp mode. So pulled over on the M4.
Had AA Recover me to a safe area and another technician came out.
He checked the oli level. It was fine.
He did however notice oil in a place that as he said it shouldn't be. He recommended not driving it, till it was repaired.
Called all the Vauxhalls around to see who could get it in.
Newport (My local and where I bought it new from) could only get it in on 26 October for an investigation.
So I begged, borrowed and made a plan to not drive it.
The day before it was due in, I drove it extremely cautiously (12 Miles) and booked it in.
I have now found out that they are extremely short staffed, yet strangely went to find my log books the day before the diagnostic was to happen.
So Car was serviced 1500 miles out of interval and therefore warranty voided.
Reading these forums, clearly there's an issue with the wet belt and loopholes are being sought (hence checking my log book early, I suspect)
Newport branch reportedly raised a PRA or something similar to that and warranty is voided centrally.
I called Customer Services (01 November) and they have no record of it.
I have sought legal advice and my solicitor thinks they are in beach of contract BEFORE a failed service interval as they sold goods knowing there was an issue that may arise.
Anyone gone down Trading Standards route?

Just wanted to say that I feared I had the dreaded wet belt issue on my 69 plate glx. My brother who is a mechanic and has serviced my car every time has drained the oil today and ran it through a sieve, to ensure there were no belt particles in the old oil. Thankfully that wasn’t the case and he has changed the oil and cleaned the variable valve timing solenoid that had some build up on it, as well as running a can of valve cleaner through the air inlet and so far it seems to have done the trick. The symptoms i was having were eml lit up, a engine fault repair required warning on start up, and then oil pressure low warning stop immediately flashing up under heavy acceleration on the motorway and having to pull over and turn the engine off before starting again. I’ve been driving the car very much reserved for the past week in the hope it wasn’t going to die on me but now after the oil change and the solenoid cleaning, it seems to have sorted it out
i should add that i had an error code relating to the knock sensor showing on the computer, the code hasn’t cleared yet, but i’m hoping that now the car is running better again the knock sensor code may clear itself. A build up of carbon and crap around the valves and the vvt solenoid cause the car to run poorly and show up these faults. So before you go back to the dealer thinking it’s the wet belt and your car is on it’s way out, take it to someone you trust who can check the oil and clean the solenoid and see how you go. I’ll confirm on here in a day or two if my car is now right in case you’re having similar problems
